What’s that smell?

Dissension in the ranks

I just received an e-mail forwarded to me by a friend in Sterling on the Lake. It looks like there is a rift developing between the Mayor and one of the councilmembers, Richards, with a former councilmember/mayor pro tem, Lutz. What makes this so interesting is that Lutz happens to be the current County Commissioner representing the City of Flowery Branch.

From what I can tell by the e-mail, Lutz is doing an end around the Mayor and Richards by going straight to the public to ask for support on a proposal to have the city run the county’s sewer plant. I can see by looking at the county’s website that Flowery Branch attended the pre-bid meeting for the plant. Evidently, they have gotten cold feet.

What makes this interesting is that the fight appears to be a clash of egos. I remember reading something sometime last year, maybe one of the comments on the Gainesville Times, that if Lutz lost the commission race, he was going to run for Mayor; as I remember it, it said that Lutz was running for commissioner to get his name recognition up to become mayor. I don’t know if this was an accurate rumor or if it was just the pundits stirring things up on the campaign trail, but it looks like there might be some hurt feelings. Either way there has to be more to it, right?

Well, maybe there is…. I called my source that sent me the e-mail and asked him if he could describe for me the relationship between the Mayor and the Commissioner. My source said that he thought that they got along; he even thought that they helped each other on their campaigns; but he also said that he heard that there might have been some betrayal at the beginning of the year. This is all too good to be true. We may have a soap brewing in South Hall County!!!!

The hunt is out for the mysterious betrayal that may or may not have occurred. If you have some dirt, please share. You can contact me at hughakston@hallcountytruth.com. I guess that I need to come up with a reward, so if you have any ideas there, let me know; maybe a Hall County Truth tee-shirt or something.

Rumor has it NUTZ instructed Tim Sims to open only Flowery Branch’s bid for the right to run the county sewer plant and to award it to Flowery Branch, so much for ethics and open government…jb

That is an interesting rumor. I am hearing that Flowery Branch never submitted for the bid.

This came out of the Purchasing dept of the county..Mr. Lutz met with Tim Sims and informed him to over look the rest of the bids and instructed him to award the bid to Flowery Branch( if he is so worried about FB he should have stayed in FB)…so really this is not a rumor! FACT….jb

I left your comment the same Mr. Buster, only because you corrected yourself. Save the name calling for the Gainesville Times comment section. your opinion as well as any other opinion is welcome here, but we do not allow the name calling. If you disagree with your local politicians, that is your right. Insults to ANY elected official by calling them names is both childish and disrespectful.

I found Jbuster. I was just looking on the Times and saw a piece about this specific issue on a day later.

Looks like Hugh and Jbuster are both in the know. I need to start my day on this site and not the Times for local information.

WOW! Thanks to both of you.

    Good discussion.
