The Smell of Flowers

I will say it if no one else will: I have been disappointed with our new chairman.  First he decides that he wants to turn our county into a police state, then he votes to keep the Red Rabbit, and now he wants to help out the gardeners in the county.

Now, I’m sure the Master Gardners are great people and I am sure that they do a great service for the county.  The issue here is that Mr. Ethical says:

“Public office is a trust created for the benefit of the people, based on moral integrity, principles, and values.  Commissioners have a duty to disclose material facts and have an obligation to each citizen.  Each commissioner must be free from the taint of self-interest, bias, or undisclosed conflicts of interest.“

But, Mr. Ethical does something different.  Here is a question, does offering a discount to an organization that your wife belongs to deserve some disclosure?  The Chairman brought up in his commission time a motion to cut the fees charged to the Master Gardners by over half without ever mentioning that his wife would be one of the beneficiaries.

I guess we should have known that the Chairman would take care of his wife.  If I am reading his Bio correctly, the Chairman married Mrs. Master Gardner back in the late 70’s, was elected to Sheriff in 1980 and then hired his wife to work for him in 1981!  I wonder if he made a disclosure back in 1981?

Is this site EVER going to start putting up new content again? Holy cow, with that many people running for Mayor in Gainesville and don’t get me started on the rich content waiting on this site in the Flowery Branch races coming in November!! Now we don’t even really have the South Hall Gazette. Is Left on Lanier still around? Don’t make us stoop so low to go there, please!!! Does this site need new writers or something? I’m willing to jump in because The Truth has got to get back online. It was too good at holding folks accountable when it was active.

Funny you should ask: I have received a lot of material lately including an e-mail from the Mayor of Flowery Branch objecting to a pay raise for the employees, but later he practically begged the council for his own pay raise.

Yes, I know that I need to get off my butt and write, but it is football season now.

Excellent to hear The Truth may be coming back online. I would be interested in sending some articles to The Truth for possible inclusion on the site. Is there a specific address where I would need to send potential articles? Best of luck on the return.
