Oh, how I love me a committee. It looks like our School Board has decided to put together a safety committee to deal with several of the issues that have gone on in our schools. It seems like a reasonable idea and one that may let off the emotional steam from recent back to back incidents.
After the Sandy Hook issue, we speculated on where the community would want to move. Surprisingly, the issue appears to have crossed partisan lines down at the Capitol as a Democrat from Decatur introduced a bill in the State Legislature that would allow local school boards to decide whether to let elementary school employees carry guns on campus, and a Republican from Cartersville introduced legislation that would arm school administrators.
Not to sound like a tree hugging liberal, I don’t know if more guns is always the solution; however, I will concede that no guns certainly puts innocent lives in jeopardy when there are bad people out there with guns. So, I guess there is a solution somewhere in between.
