Happiest Guy in Gainesville

imageYesterday afternoon Zach Thompson got great news. At the Gainesville City Council Meeting Tuesday afternoon, Bob Hamrick announced he was retiring and wouldn’t seek re-election. I am hoping the best for Bob Hamrick and his retirement. Enjoy the free time.

The big question now is will anyone else jump in the race for the council seat against Zach. Normally I wish everyone is in a contested race. But… Zach had the guts to challenge an incumbent. So I’m really hoping the best for him. I know me and my friends and family are supporting Zach. I hope you will too.

Now let’s all work to find someone to run in ward 3. Before this happens. The City of Gainesville may finally be heading in a good direction let’s not turn the ship around.

I think the chances of someone else jumping in just shot up. Often you will have a bunch of people run for an empty seat, but very few will take on an incumbent. I congratulate Zach for being willing to take on an incumbent, but I would still like for him to campaign if for no other reason than to make commitments to the voters in Gainesville.

First things first…thanks for the Extra Large photo. It makes me appear as if I’m not 21 anymore. Wait, I’m 42. Is that old? It seems not in comparison as I am now knee deep in our community‚Äôs politics. I have invested my heart, soul, time, and money into Gainesville / Hall County opening my first business here in 1997. I never approached the race with the attitude of running against an incumbent, especially one who has been in office for 46 years. It just so happened that this was the case. No advice or council was sought because I know my convictions. I know that Gainesville is at a pivotal growth point where immediate decisions will shape our future (for better or worse). My promise to Gainesville is that I will always listen to you and use your opinions to help guide my decisions. I will also continue to introduce myself to our citizens throughout the campaign, contested or not. Whether by ignorance or bravery you were out in public running for an office with an incumbent in the seat. One who stated he was running for re-election. For having the “conviction” to run in that situation, I give you credit. I wish others would do the same. Like I said, I’m glad you are out there and running. My fingers are crossed and I’m hoping the best for you. Keep working hard for which you will be rewarded. Feel free to buzz us here at the Truth if you thing we can help.
