    I will start!
The Truth will be there. This tax hike sucks. The Sheriff needs to come off some cheddar in his budget, not threaten to sue if he doesn’t get it. I refuse to pay for the mistakes of Oliver, Powell, Banks and the rest of the commission over the years who screwed up our county. The new commissioners better get the clue. Are they just gonna take the baton from the old boy crooks and continue to put this county in the hole while they get wealthier?

So I will be there. If you would like to meet me, I will be sitting in the middle wearing red. You can’t miss me.

    Hope you like the Banner!

I like the banner. Will Hugh be there? If so, will he be selling those Armadillo hats?

Lets face the fact, .Tom is nothing but a big spender.Always wants his way thinks he is the king. He has to go, not sure Meham would be any better, like turning the fox loose in the henhouse, once a sherriff always a sherriff

I am pissed. As an employee of the Sheriff’s Dept., I agree that there could be cuts made in the area of command staff salaries and toys (like the convertible parade car). The command staff salaries are WAY above the norm for similar sized agencies. It is easy for them to tell the other employees times are tough on everyone when they are bringing home four times as much as them. The bottom line is the county commissioners need to cut back the spending! The reason we are nearly twelve million in debt is because they bought the Liberty Mutual building when we were already in the red. The commissioners all need to be replaced, but until their time in office comes to an end, the ENTIRE county needs to take responsibility for “their” elected representative’s mistakes, not just the county employees. I agree that parks and recreation is an important function and I love for my children to be able to utilize the facilities, however, as someone posted on the Gainesville Times article, leisure activities should be the first thing cut. Cutting public safety endangers the citizens and employees, while cutting recreation only inconveniences them.

I was there and barely got in the room. My 2 cents worth wasn’t popular because the county “govment workers” was there crying and winning about unpaid holidays–what if there whole business they had worked hard for was gone?!? Suck it up–get a job in the private sector and see how long you last!!! Commissoners B Powell and A Bell “weaklings” are caving–they know it’s wrong to add tax burdens in this business climate, but they are going to do it anyway!!! CITIZENS WHO DON’T WANT TO PAY .30% HIGHER TAXES BETTER BE AT THE NEXT MEETING EARLY–BUTTS IN THE SEATS MATTERS!!!!

    To “old suzzanna”

This “govment worker” is also a taxpayer here. We’ve been crapped on for going on 4 years… furloughs, no raises, no retirement, no cost-of-living adjustments, etc…. all to keep your local gov’t working and avoiding a tax increase.

Previous to working for the County, I have worked private sector for large and small companies, and ran my own business for almost 11 years. I thought I would contribute something to my local community with 40+ years of actual experience.

Your ignorant rant above shows just how little you really know. I resent your idiotic assumptions. Spewing dogma without fact and a lack of critical thinking skills belies a huge portion of the electorate. Uninformed citizens are the undoing of representative democracies.

I’ll be going back to the private sector. I can make twice the money and not have to endure the backstabbing of ingrates who move their mouths without an engaged brain.

    Good day madame.

Slipknot – Those of us in business haven’t had any of those things either. In fact a lot of us have have major cuts in pay to keep our business running and WE never had retirement. Everyone is hurting. Do you thing government should not feel the pinch because it can always steal from the rest of us? Even though we have nothing to give.

Old Suzzanna and Dagny. As a business owner, you assume the responsibility that if your business fails, you are without a job. When you are a public servant, you accept greater risk than ANY private business owner (when was the last time you were shot at or inside a burning building?…I have been in BOTH!). The bottom line is that Hall County has escaped tax increases for MUCH longer than surrounding counties. As I stated earlier, it is time the E N T I R E county share the idiotic debt OUR (yes…we as public safety officers pay taxes just like EVERYONE else) elected officials have put upon us. If you, as a business owner don’t like the direction this county is headed in, then contact the BOC and DEMAND they sell that Liberty Mutual building and work toward getting them out of office. However, until they are gone, it is in the best interest of the community as a whole if public safety is not burdened any further.

Kudos to Slipknot and Lucas……….yes people like the ones above and other blogs are ignorant. I say shut down government, have very minimal public safety, no parks, no rec department or libraries and cut back on schools! Then the ones of us who see that many of those services are vital for growth and attractability of a community for others to come to can move! I would be ashamed to wear “RED” with the leadership and comments of the local republican party…..they certainly are part of bringing this county down to it’s knees……and yes it’s coming down and will certainly be seen in a few years!

Lucas – Business owners put their entire life savings on the line everyday. Without businesses there is no money for the government to loot. I am against cutting any public safety but you need to realize there is more to government than police and fire. The government should not provide entertainment.

…… a little off-topic, but that’s what brought the Soviet Union down. It’ll work here too. No incentive for excellence will bring mediocracy to us all. See ‘ya in the bread line. 😉
